As a loud and proud member of “la familia,” also known as the mafia, your job is pretty straightforward in this Mafia Wars game. You’ve got a fistful of shells, a pump-action shotgun, and most importantly, a cool and calm demeanor that bullets can’t even mess with. Wave after wave of rivals will crash upon your barricade, but you’re so cool, you don’t even need to stop leaning on your beautiful car. That shotgun can hit them from here, after all! Unload on enemy after enemy as they approach, and don’t forget to rifle through their pockets after each of these bozos goes down. That money will be very, very useful between rounds!
Look, this isn’t your regular old “fists and bricks” skirmish in the park like you used to do with the Moncello boys on the weekends. These enemies are here to take everything your beautiful Sicilian family has built over the years – the nerve of these clowns! As they step up your game, so will you. In between levels, use your gold to upgrade your shotgun and/or acquire new weapons and defenses. With enough coin, you can get machine guns, grenades, mines, and tougher barricades. You can even unlock other family members to help you fight off these swarms of enemies! Choose wisely, paisano, because it’s going to get messy either way.
One of the coolest and most subtle elements of this game is the fact that it’s actually a tower defense game in disguise. It doesn’t jump out at you from the beginning, but eventually, you realize it. Mafia Wars (and Mafia Wars 2, for that matter) is kind of a hybrid between a shooter and a tower defense because it actually allows you to aim and fire manually at your targets while still getting passive bonuses. The result is an awesomely immersive, well-rounded experience! Even better, if this game gives you a hankering for classic tower defensegames, then we have a whole category waiting for you. What do you say? Think you can take care of these jokesters in Mafia Wars and be home in time for mother’s famous lasagna?
