If something about this Snakes vs Blocks online game looks more than a little familiar to you, you’re not the only one. Young or old, we all know the classic game of snake, originally developed by a studio called Gremlin in 1976. This game is similar, but with a few key variations. Yes, you eat little morsels to grow in size, but difference number one is that each morsel has a number above it that determines how many units you get to grow. Difference number two is that, instead of slithering around in a square arena, you’re wriggling your way down an endless track, which brings us to difference number 3. Every so often, you’ll approach a wall of numbered blocks. If the block says ten, you better hope you are more than ten units long, because that’s how many it’s going to take before it lets you through! Your objective is to eat as much food as you can, grow super long, and make it as far as possible.
More than just classic Snake, this Snake vs Blocks game harkens back to more recent classics as well, like 2048, which also deals with numbered tiles and tricky puzzle mechanics. We love this game because it layers on multiple challenges at once. You have to swerve to try to find food, keep track of how long you are by doing quick math in your head, and then swerve to avoid the high-numbered blocks. If you find yourself craving original Snake, or if you’re loving the idea of a new twist on the game, then we have both of those bases covered or you in our Snake games category. We’ve got 3-d versions of the game, multiplayer versions, and a whole lot more for you to enjoy. Until then, we’ll see you in Snake vs Blocks, and remember – a snake’s gotta eat!
