Everything about this Box Champ game is totally open-ended, and that’s what makes it such a creatively fulfilling experience. A tribute to one of the most epic games within the most epic era of arcade gamehistory, this tetris-like block stacker is combining the old art style and gameplay you love with more than a few modern twists. As you move pieces around the board, mellow electronic music pulses in the background. Combined with the bright tapestry of colors in front of you and the chill, untimed gameplay, it makes for a very creative and satisfying experience. The greatest feature of all in this game is the power of choice. You don’t have to put the piece anywhere you don’t want to, and that’s always a great feeling. Of course, this can go south very quickly if you don’t pay enough attention, so come ready to compete! After all, how can there be a champion without winners, losers, and points?
A 10 x 10 grid of spaces stretched out in front of you. On the right-hand side of your screen is a panel containing three pieces. Each of the pieces comes in a selection of random shapes. Your job is to move those pieces to the game board in an arrangement that creates horizontal or vertical lines. When you create an uninterrupted line, it disappears and you earn points. The game never ends, so the object is to get as many points as you can before you fill up the screen and lose. The kicker? This game contains two special pieces and a point multiplier. Put two lightning blocks together, and they’ll take out a line of bricks automatically, even if the line has gaps. On the other hand, frozen bricks will take two line scores to fully disappear. Finally, if you can complete two lines at the same time, your point multiplier will increase! Good luck in Box Champ, and remember – save space whenever you can!
